Dancing with the Stars 2009

Postby Holly on Sun Mar 08, 2009 1:30 pm

I wasn't hooked on this show until just the last few seasons. But it's fun and I always wanted to be a dancer (with no real natural talent at it all).

So, I'll be here with updates and recaps. Hopefully, others out there will find this section of the Gathering Spot so we can discuss all the season's happenings.

Can't even begin to name a favorite, yet. Get back with you on that.

Well, the first two hours of Dancing with the Stars were quite interesting. I do love the two replacements, probably more than I would have enjoyed watching Jewel and Nancy O'Dell, actually. This will make for some interesting discussions, especially for all those young girls out there watching and aspiring to be a Playboy Bunny. ;-)

The one who got slammed the most should really get the most praise, IMO. Steve Wozniak was bouncing up off the floor from a complete crouch to a full stance like his upper leg muscles were on springs. No one mentioned that - I sure couldn't do it. Gotta give the guy credit for those spectacular few moves for sure.

Can't guess who'll go home first.

I'm back for an update. Goodness, watching everyone's faces when Woz's name was called because he was staying was - well - priceless (and tasteless at the same time). Come on - he's got some rhythm but he tends to turn it into silliness and it does get a little old. This stuff about entertaining - if we wanted that, variety shows would still be going strong. We're into dancing here (are we?).

Most improved? Ty, of course. He should have gotten extra points for catching that fall - it truly was amazing. He was smooooooooth - a totally different person.

Monday's bottom two - let's see; here we have some prime role models battling it out. That role model stuff is way overrated, anyway. So, with Denise gone, who's next?

Dancing with the Stars - Week 4 - March 2009

Postby Holly on Tue Mar 31, 2009 7:01 am

So, two go home tonight? Who will it be?

Just a few quick highlights:

1. Another trip on the stairs - what is with that?

2. Worst rating: Ty - he was way overrated for the quality of dancing he did. By comparison, all of the other competitors' scores seemed to be pretty fair.

3. What's with the Argent-EYE-n pronunciation? Someone went British on us, there (I get it). Check the dictionary - it's Argen-TEEN when referring to the country. However, "TYNE" gets the preferred spelling when referring to the silvery color of a metal. "TEEN" comes in second there. Just my two cents - right, wrong, indifferent - it bugged me.

4. Who dressed Mark Ballas? He should have balked at the diaper look, don't you think? And red, too. That color really messes up on some TVs. Like a glowing blur - and in this case, it didn't help any.

Predictions for leaving are: Holly, Steve-O, Woz. I'm thinking Holly and W. Steve-O is really trying hard, while the W. is just there and not going to improve.

DWTS - Week 5 - My Monday April 6 Recap

Postby Holly on Tue Apr 07, 2009 9:35 am

Last night was spectacularly unspectacular in many ways. Both Ty and Chuck were both overrated in my opinion. Chuck's sweeping arm movements were almost comical - he just couldn't carry it off and I can't believe the judges raved on.

Really liked Steve-O's performance. His character was charming and he deserved higher scores than the above-mentioned guys, IMO. Still, he'll probably be next, although he has a better chance of improvement than Lawrence Taylor or Ty, I think.

Of course, Gilles is born to do the dramatic dances. My husband asked at the end of their dance, "did he kill her?" Yes, it was that good. Seriously don't know where the "hectic" part came from because that seems to be part of the persona of this dance. (Note: husband is under considerable duress while watching DWTS. This is not his cup of tea, but he hangs in until a certain point, then it's off to the other TV. For the Tues. performance, he'll be long gone before it starts.)

Tonight, I guess bets are on that Steve-O goes, but I'd like to see Lawrence get it first.

Who Goes in Week 7?

Postby Holly on Sun Apr 26, 2009 2:32 pm

OK, so who goes Tuesday? Really - it should be Ty. He needs to go so the other good dancers can really start slugging it out. It is not going to be pretty.

Goodness - can't believe Ty's still standing! Surely it will be this week, especially after his wife had to backtrack on her little comments. Chuck was the 2nd worst, anyway, so after Tuesday, it should really be down to the ones who are good. That's going to make it tough.
