A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

Postby Vannielovesmovies on Fri Mar 28, 2008 7:10 am

I see that A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle is on Barnes & Noble's top ten list. Not sure if it's because it is an excellent book or because Oprah recommended it. I won't buy it, (I don't think) but I will check it out of the library when it is available.

Has anyone read or heard anything about this book?

I still have not been able to get this book from my library, apparently the waiting list is still very long. Truthfully, it is not a must-have for me, but I am/was curious. I asked a few people about the content and have learn a bit of what the subject is about.

I also went to Amazon.com to check out what readers thought. The opinions are very mixed, although to be honest, one reviewer pretty much summed up the way I feel,
I am not interested in spending so much time and energy thinking about myself with an end goal of reducing my sense of self to nothing.

I am not knocking anyone who reads this book, but I have read many similar to this. Perhaps that is why I don't feel that I need to read yet another.

Hi Vannie:

I, too, have heard of that book, but did not purchase it. I had to laugh at the review you enclosed from one at Amazon.com. That was hilarious, and I, too, don't want to expend my energy thinking so much about myself.

I do enough self-analysis...way too much....this book might just be a tad exhausting at the moment, at least for me...lol..

I was reading something a bit lighter, a book that model Alek Wek has written about her childhood, and later escape from the Sudan. It's pretty good. I was trying to interview her for some beauty tips, and the book agents sent me her book in the meantime. But that was 3 months ago, and they never got me in touch with Alek. Not easy trying to reach a super model. Oh well.. I gave it my best shot.
